Skyline Casino On Boulder Highway

The great crew over at Online United States Casinos let us repost a recent trip report from @John_Mehaffey. Follow him on Twitter as John has a wealth of knowledge of casinos and casino games. Here’s a quick trip report from when he visited a couple Henderson and Boulder Highway Casinos in March of 2018.

My work took me through downtown Henderson and the southern end of Boulder Highway this week. I decided to play a bit while I was in that part of town.

There are people that automatically dismiss gambling in these areas, according to my Twitter mentions when I discuss the topic I feel like those players are missing great value.

The more than 50-year-old Skyline Casino is getting some additions put on its 4-acre property on Boulder Highway, near Sunset Road in Henderson. Casino owner Jim Marsh, the man behind Jim Marsh Kia and various car dealerships and other ventures in Las Vegas and across Nevada since the early 1970s, is adding a 51-room hotel on Skyline’s property, just south of the casino. Dec 26, 2019 Great restaurant inside Skyline Casino, Henderson, Nevada If you're in Henderson, Nevada or passing through, consider stopping in The Skyline Casino to eat dinner. There are specials every night, an excellent selection of desserts, great bar choices and very attentive waiters and waitresses. Of all the casinos on the Boulder Highway that I have tried, I'd say that Skyline is the most visually appealing and worth a hang. This is a hidden gem of Vegas over off of Boulder Highway. This place is one of the few that has true coin operated machines. They also ya e a small poker room, some blackjack tables and a great showroom.

Emerald Island:

My first stop was Emerald Island. It is a slots-only casino that specializes in penny and nickel games. This may sound too small, but some multi-hand games permit up to 30 coins per line.

The best game there is 10/6 Double Double Bonus that pays 40 on a straight flush. This is on a 3/5/10-play machine that permits up to 30 coins. This machine also has Not-So-Ugly Deuces and full pay Jacks or Better. There are a few other 99% games as well.

Hand Pay!

Emerald Island also has two new variants with good pay tables. One is Ultimate X Bonus Streak and the other is Split Card. The players club is $1 per $1,500 wagered, but it does not take much play to get special $20 cash bonuses and three free meals a week. The restaurant there is an above average casino café.

Every payout of $400 or more is a hand pay, even though all machines are ticket-in/ticket-out. I got dealt four deuces with a kicker on Split Card and had a $442.50 hand pay and a couple of smaller wins.

Jokers Wild $1 Craps:

I got bored and decided to take my winnings to the $1 Jokers Wild craps table. It has 10 times odds. That did not turn out as well and it got old quickly. After leaving my fun time at Emerald Island behind, I headed north on Boulder Highway.

Skyline Casino:

I checked out a couple of other casinos before stopping in Skyline Casino. It is located on Boulder Highway ear Sunset. This place is not for everyone. They play a satellite 70’s music channel. Many of the machines still use coins. It can be a bit smoky. None of that bothers me.

Skyline Casino has full pay Deuces Wild. There are about 20 machines. Many accept bets up to 20 coins. This is easily the biggest draw of the casino. I played this and some $1 18/7/5 Joker Poker.

The staff here is quite friendly. Every person I encountered was courteous and helpful in the old school locals joint kind of way. The service was well above average, even for a small locals casino. Everybody seemed to know each other. I booked a small win before calling it a night.

Other Notable Gambling on Boulder Highway:

While I did not stop on this trip, there are several other good places to play on Boulder Highway and in Henderson. Boulder Station and Fiesta Henderson have quarter full pay Double Bonus, Double Double Bonus, Deuces Wild and Joker Poker. Sam’s Town has all of those except Joker Poker.

Arizona Charlie’s and Eastside Cannery have $5 double deck blackjack with double down before and after splitting, as well as re-split aces. Longhorn has a shoe game that allows double down on any two or three cards plus surrender and re-split aces. Sam’s Town has $3 craps with 20 times odds.
